Caleb's Potty Party
After 3 days of potty training, I think he's got it! Well, the pee pee part anyway.
Our first day started with Caleb and I potty training Elmo. Caleb proved to be a great teacher so we moved the focus onto him. I pumped him full of juice and we ran, skipped, hopped to the potty about every 15 minutes. It never failed as soon as we got off the potty he'd go while washing his hands. When I asked him why he wasn't going in the potty? He replied, "I don't know how". Which I realized was a totally fair statement. Even though he'd watch Paul go in the potty numerous times, he didn't know how to do it himself. So he just sat on the potty while reading books, singing or blowing bubbles for 10 minute intervals until finally that afternoon he went in the potty!
He was so shocked to see the stream of pee he yelled with excitement. With every yell, he'd tense up and the stream would stop. Then he'd calm down and the stream would start up again and so did his yelling. It was hilarious to watch. After he finished, he looked up at me and said, "Jesus loves me because I went pee pee in the potty" ("Jesus Loves Me" is one of the songs we sang while he sat on the potty.) We washed our hands and then celebrated with a sticker on his chart.
The next day was much easier. We focused on staying dry and didn't spend so much time sitting on the potty. Although I think I made sitting on the potty too much fun because he'd tell me that he needed to go when he really didn't just so he could sit there and blow bubbles. I made up a funky "Dry Dance" which he started singing and dancing one day while we were in line at the grocery store. Hehe.
He's a quick learner - by the end of the 2nd day we were using the potty to go pee pee! We went over to Tia Susanna's house and had a potty party with cake and ice cream. Caleb loved it!
